Vintage Calendar Journal

I’ve been looking for a baby journal to give my brother and his wife for their newborn child. I thought it would be fun to keep something like that for them. I always go searching for great finds over at Lula Mae’s. I love that store! But, they didn’t have any baby journals on hand. The owner suggested a 5 year Perpetual calendar journal instead. I loved the idea, but every 5 year calendar I found had only 1 or two lines to write and it was always this ugly looking book.

While searching for fun DIY projects on Pinterest I found this great little project called DIY Project: Vintage Postcard Calendar Journal

This was a great idea to something I have been searching for. I’m so glad there are wonderfully creative people who share their ideas!! This will be my weekend project! Also if you read the comments, one reader shared a link to anthropology for ceramic baskets. I’m pondering the use of those instead. But, I want to complete it this weekend. I don’t think I can wait for it to be delivered.  If you’ve created this I’d love to see what you’ve done. Please post links to your images in the comments section.

A note about Lula Mae’s: This store is so unique and they carry some of the most interesting gift items. I can always find something fun for the house, the office and for gifts. I will go shopping there at least once a month. I always find something wonderful. In fact I have to go back when they get their new supplies of vintage poison bottles.  Great store, wonderful owner and employees. You will always walk out with a smile and great items!

As The Day Ends

The new year is approaching rather quickly. A lot sooner than expected. I think like most, it seems as though 2011 just began and here we are now facing the end of that year. I can honestly say that this past year was a bit crazy. Wrapping it up with the last few months being the most difficult. I am truly ready to kiss 2011 Goodbye. For us our Christmas tradition changed in so many ways. Not only in my family but also in my husband’s. The things that lead up to the changes were some pretty sad events. One which was difficult to deal with, while the other was a necessary change. But, I also got to partake in new festivities. One of the festivities I attend this year was a Saturnalia party. In Wikipedia, it’s listed as a time of honoring the God Saturn. This included a banquet, gift giving, and a bit of chaos.

The event was so much fun and really no different than any other party except, towards the end of the night there was a focus in thinking about the upcoming year. We discussed about the need for us to to be what others want us to be. And honestly, if you think about it, we struggle with that all our lives to find out who we really are while still wanting to please those around us. Our parents, our spouses, our children and what others deem as acceptable. The discussion led to changes we wanted for the new year. This is acceptance of ourselves and others.  To be able to say this is me and I’m happy to be who I am. And because I’m happy with who I am, I can be accepting about who others are.  So we cheered and toasted to the upcoming year for better acceptance of ourselves and others. That was a nice change to ending of a party. To come together as one and collectively decide on what changes were important, then to honor it with a toast.
